Who we are

Our website address is: https://redhedink.com.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Contact forms

If you submit information via our contact form, we keep contact form submissions for one year for customer service purposes. We do not use the information submitted through them for marketing purposes.

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

We do not collect any analytics data; by default, our content management system does not gather this information, and we do not use any third-party plugins to collect it.

Who we share your data with

Other than data submitted via our contact form, we do not share site data with any partners or third-party service providers. Specific to contact form information, we share it with our partners only to the extent necessary to fulfill a direct business request (to create a proposal for a brochure, video, etc.).

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Our website server is located within the United States, as are our third-party service providers and partners. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service, also located within the United States. Therefore, when we collect your personal information, everything that is processed takes place within the US.

Additional information

How we protect your data

We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect the personal information that we collect and process. These measures are designed to provide a level of security appropriate to the risk of processing your personal information. For example, our website uses Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure (“HTTPS”), the secure version of HTTP, the protocol over which data is sent between your browser and any website to which you connect. Using HTTPS means that all communications between your browser and our Website are automatically encrypted.

In addition, the website is hosted on a private server rather than a shared commercial server, the latter being more common and more susceptible to common data breaches. We also contract with a web hosting company whose policy is to swiftly shut down the site’s server if necessary, for example, if a hacker succeeded in uploading a virus to infect the website.

If a breach were to occur, we would make reasonable efforts to notify all registered users affected by the event and provide information regarding what steps were taken to rectify the situation.

Industry regulatory disclosure requirements

We will only collect, store, or otherwise process your personal information in the following situations:

  • When we have your consent to do so. For example, if you opt-in to receive promotional emails. You can withdraw your consent at any time as described on this page.
  • We need to use your personal information to perform our responsibilities under our contract with you (e.g., providing the products or services you have requested).
  • We have a legitimate interest in processing your personal information. For example, we may process your personal information to communicate with you about our Services; and to provide, secure, and improve our services.
  • We are required by law to process the information.
